Three Questions to Ask Yourself

What's the best investment you've ever made in yourself? I recently heard three great questions from the Tim Ferriss podcast that got me thinking about my life. I am, after all, a sucker for anything that calls for self-reflection. I thought I'd pose them here for any of you other junkies like me.

1. If you could have a gigantic billboard anywhere with anything on it...what would it say and why?

Breathe.

Most of the time, if we take a deep breath before making decisions or reacting, it seems we are kinder and wiser. Also, I think taking longer, deeper breaths would do wonders for America's relationship with stress.

2. What is one of the best or most worthwhile investments you’ve ever made?

Going to therapy.

For months, I cringed as I swiped my card at the end of every session. In retrospect? Those swipes changed my life for the better. For me, going to therapy was a way to practice self-care, self-love and invest in all of my relationships.

3. What are bad recommendations you hear in your profession or area of expertise?

That if you love your job, you'll never work a day in your life.

I love my job, guys. I feel so lucky to be growing and investing in The Letter Project. But you know what? I work hard. I'm stretched beyond my comfort zone a lot and, although it's good for me, it takes focus and energy. While it's fun work, it doesn't mean I don't love a weekend day relaxing with Chris, or better yet, a beach vacation.

I find that idea that work shouldn't feel like work to be a little bit shaming. It's OK if you love your job and you love the weekends. It can be both!

If you're comfortable sharing, I'd love to hear your answers, too!
