7 Things I Loved About Life in Kenya
I mentioned Monday that the hard part of our trip to Kenya is still a bit too vibrant, if you will, to really reflect on our time there. However! During our time in our village, I recorded a few things I loved about life there. It's amazing how, after a few weeks, you can really begin to feel like you understand the daily rhythm of how they live.
1. The slow mornings with Chris. There was no rush to workout or get ready. We laid in bed and prayed, then bathed and dressed ourselves. We'd make instant coffee and breakfast. It was so much simpler without technology, makeup or attire options. We were so in sync.
2. There is no decision fatigue because there isn't the luxury of choice. We just lived each day. It's so simple. We didn't ask each other what show to watch, if we should see friends or if we wanted to cook or go out. We didn't wonder if we should have a glass of wine. You just do what you need to do to get by each day - to keep yourself fed, clean and employed.
3. Not wearing makeup. You start to recognize yourself without it. I stopped thinking: oh, I look so tired. You start to feel beautiful just with the glow of sunscreen, which is nice.
4. Waking up each morning to roosters and birds and cool air through our windows. It felt so simple. We always knew the rooster would wake us up in time.
5. The silence. At home we always have on music and are texting and watching things. There it's just silent. There is so much time to think and talk. We felt so connected.
6. Loving our workout because it was our fun activity each day. Without TV or people to see or wine to drink, you start to really appreciate the time to workout together. It was our big activity besides working + cooking.
7. Walking a mile to and from work each day. It's the perfect way to wake up and to wind down.
